Tokyo Gourmet Trip --Day 2 (Part 1: Narita-Hotel-Lunch)

Thursday, 14th May 2009

After about 12 hours, we finally landed at Narita Airport.

We decided to travel to Shinjuku via Narita Express in order to benefit from the Suica and NEX package. For 3,500 yen, the combo consists of 1,500 yen Narita Express and connecting trains rides to your final destination in the greater Tokyo Area, a 500 yen suica card which is refundable after use and 1,500 yen suica credit that can be used on any public transportation and many shops in and around Tokyo, and can be topped up via the ticket machine.

Unfortunately, the train to Shinjuku has just gone. The next one is 1 hour later. Therefore, we took the advise from this friendly lady at the tourist centre ( She speaks good English) and took the train to Tokyo Station and change Tokyo Metro over there.

Here we are at the hotel--Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku Hotel. Check in is at 2pm. So we deposit our luggage and started our first meal in Tokyo.

We had our lunch on the 14th floor of this department store. (Yes, that's the sunglasses Simon bought at the airport)

Restaurant: 赤坂 ふきぬき--14th floor of Takashimaya Time Square, Shinjuku

My eel set menu. Nagoya style. At 2100 yen for lunch time( price is double for dinner). The eels were incredibly delicious. The restaurant has a great view too looking out on the square.

One of the good thing of dining in Japan is there is no extra fees on the final bill. After you sit down, a glass of water or a cup of green tea will be served for free and later refilled. You also receive a wet towel (oshibori) for cleaning your hands

This is Simon's set. I don't remember what style it is called. 1600 yen. Equally tasty.
